Safety Considerations
- Disconnect the vehicle battery before beginning installation to avoid accidental short circuits or electrical shock, especially when working with power locks.
- Wear protective gloves and eye protection to guard against sharp metal edges inside the door panel and on the latch assembly.
- Support the door properly when removing heavy components to avoid it from shifting or closing unexpectedly during installation.
- Securely tighten all mounting bolts to the manufacturer's torque specs to avoid latch misalignment or failure while driving.
- Test the latch and lock operation thoroughly before closing the door fully — improper installation can cause the door to jam shut.
Installation Instructions
- Access the door panel by removing the inner door trim.
- Disconnect electrical connections, if any.
- Unbolt the old latch by removing the fasteners that hold the latch to the door shell.
- Install the new door latch by positioning it through the service hole in the door and aligning it with the striker. Bolt it in place securely.
- Attach rods or cables from the door handle and lock/unlock mechanism.
- Reconnect the earlier removed power connections.
- Check door closing, locking, and handle release operations once installation is complete.
When to Replace?
- Door fails to stay securely shut or pops open while driving — indicates worn or broken latch claw or detent.
- Lock/unlock functions fail either electrically or manually, often due to internal wear or actuator linkage failure.
- The door handle becomes hard to operate or feels loose — a sign of broken internal levers or springs.
- Visible rust or corrosion on latch components compromises strength and smooth operation.
- Rattling noises from the door while driving suggest latch misalignment or internal wear.
